The figure below shows the hardware layout of the MITgcm cluster facility. In addition to the myrinet-3 and myrinet-4 compute systems and the nfs0 - nfs7 storage system, the diagram shows the high-speed Myrinet switch fabric that provides internal networking capabilities for parallel computation. The Myrinet network is complemented by a switched Fast-Ethernet/Gigabit-Ethernet network that links together all the machines in the facility. The gateway server cg01 acts as the host for logins from outside systems and hosts the server program for the PBS queuing system. The PBS queuing system is the standard mechanism for running jobs on the myrinet-3 and myrinet-4 node sets. The gateway server cg01 also hosts a web accessible PBS monitoring program. This program provides a graphical snapshot of PBS load. A second machine, cg02, acts as the server for system services that are internal to the cluster. These include DHCP, YP. This machine also hosts the login account home directories and shared software in /usr/local. Both the home directories and /usr/local are visible to all machines in the cluster.
