Including the Arctic Ocean
Typically, in ocean only calculations with the lat-lon grid (left),
the Artic ocean is filled to avoid the CFL troubles that arise from
the converging meridians. With the cubic grids (right) this is no
longer necessary. The above grid is the ECC32-R3 grid yeilding the
same number of points along the equator in both grids. The grid cells
in the cubic grid are visibly more uniform in resolution than on the
lat-lon grid.
