External Gravity Wave Propagation on

Expanded Conformal Cubic Grid

I've supplied the above animation as an MPEG for those who have trouble with the above applet.

The above animation shows the surface pressure evolution after a "splash" on the equator. The grid used is ECC32 (6x32x32) with no re-scaling.

The calculation is non-rotating allow the signal to propagate in all directions uniformly around the globe. It takes 36 hours for a wave front to circumnavigate the entire globe.

For comparison, we made the same calculation on a regular latitude-longitude grid. There's little notable difference in behaviour and in particular the signal propagates cleanly through the singularities at the cube corneres. The real purpose of this experiment was to test the code by checking that the solution was symmetric which it is.
